What are track rollers?

2022-05-18
The track rollers are used to support the weight of the tractors while rolling on the tracks (rail link) or track shoe surface. They are also used to restrain the tracks and prevent them from slipping laterally. When the tractor turns, the track rollers force the tracks to slip on the ground. Rollers are often used in muddy, dusty environments and need to withstand strong impacts, so they are required to have reliable sealing and wear-resistant rims.

The types of track rollers used for combined tracks and integral or rubber tracks are different. The rollers of the combined track roll on the guide rails and the track rollers of the integral or rubber track roll on the track shoes. The rollers of the combined track have two types, one is a single flange and the other is a double flange. The former is more commonly used because it is easy to manufacture, but the latter is less commonly used. The purpose of the flange is to prevent the lateral movement of the track relative to it, so as to prevent derailment when turning. A monolithic or rubber track whose roller rims are flat without the need for flanges due to the fact that the inner surfaces of the track shoes are cast with raised tines to prevent lateral movement of the track against the rollers . But each roller must be double-rimmed. A larger number of track rollers can make the ground pressure of the track more uniform, so that walking on wet and soft soil can reduce subsidence, but on the other hand, because the length of the track is certain, the number of track rollers is large. The diameter of each of them must be small, which increases the rolling resistance.
